Fairy Tale Ball makes for a lot of magic in Sea Cliff

Last Friday, students at Sea Cliff Elementary took part in the annual Fairy Tale Ball, which culminates the first-grade readers’ theatre course.

“The Fairy Tale Ball is a first-grade performance based, inter-disciplinary learning experience at Sea Cliff Schools,” said Principal Chris Zublionis. “Students integrate their communication and dramatic reading skills with their knowledge of fiction writing and art.”

Children were invited to dress up as their favorite storybook characters for the enchanting event. The girls wowed in glittering princess gowns, and the boys dressed as variations of trolls and animals.

The first graders sang poems and songs for an audience of their parents and peers. After the performance, relatives were invited back to the first-grade classrooms to watch a rendition of fairy tale stories acted out by the students.

Additionally, each classroom featured a fairy tale artifacts museum. Art teacher Lisa Giurlanda assisted the students in creating objects from their favorite fairy tales to be exhibited the day of the ball.
