REMEMBERING JACKIE ROBINSON: The Chai Club of Temple B’nai Torah, 2900 Jerusalem Avenue (and Oakfield Avenue) Wantagh will celebrate Jackie Robinson on Monday, September 30 at 7:30 p.m. with a special event with E.A. Livingston, a noted lecturer and sports historian who will lead a presentation on the baseball life and times of Jackie Robinson.  Cost  is $5 per person. Please RSVP 781-4966.

MANDALAY PLAYGROUND BENEFIT: The Harlem Wizards are coming to Wantagh High School on Monday, November 4 at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.) The evening promises to be a fun-filled event that is great for kids and adults, and is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. The event is hosted by the Mandalay School Playground Committee. They have brought the Wizards to town to help raise funds for a new school playground to benefit Mandalay School. All proceeds will go toward that effort.

PRESCHOOL AT FOREST LAKE: The Forest Lake PTA Preschool Committee invites all children entering kindergarten in September, 2014 to participate in its preschool program. Children must be five years old by December 1, 2014 and zoned for Forest Lake Elementary School in Wantagh.

The program is held once a month starting in October and ending in May at Forest Lake Elementary School. The purpose of the program is to familiarize the incoming kindergarten students and their parents with the school. Each month a different aspect of the school is covered.

HARVEST FESTIVAL: The annual Harvest Fair sponsored by the Seaford Historical Society will be held on Sunday, September 29, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on the museum grounds on Waverly Avenue in Seaford. Attractions include: pumpkin patch, entertainment, children’s games, mums for sale, raffles, baked goods and a variety of returning and new vendors. The food tent will again feature the Powell family clam chowder and the traditional fair menu items. See you there rain or shine!

Bird Walk: Join the South Shore Audubon Society for a bird walk at Mill Pond Park from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday, October 6.  The group will meet at the Park on the north side of Merrick Road, west of the Wantagh State Parkway (Wantagh/Bellmore).

Walk leaders and other birders and nature enthusiasts will be happy to share their knowledge and experience with you. 

The bird walk is free of charge. Rain will cancel the bird walk.

BLESSSING THE ANIMALS: The Seaford United Methodist Church, 2160 Washington Avenue (Corner of Washington and  Waverly Avenues) in Seaford is pleased to announce a Blessing of the Animals ceremony on Sunday, October 6 at 3 p.m. This activity will take place outdoors on the patio.

All pet owners and animal lovers are welcome to attend. Refreshments and treats for all attendees.
