New Reporter on the Beat

Excited to be covering my hometown

Posted

Hello! My name is Rebecca Anderson and I am 22 years old. I grew up in Wantagh, graduated from MacArthur High School and have been a Long Island resident my entire life. I am a new reporter for the Long Island Herald and will be covering community news in both Wantagh and Seaford.

I recently graduated from Towson University, a medium-sized state school in Towson, Md., with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and a focus in journalism. I am an active member of a National Panhellenic sorority and was a four-year senior member of Towson’s nationally recognized cheerleading team.

I’ve worked extensively in the nonprofit sector for a number of years and interned at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society this summer in the logistics department. Other organizations I’ve worked closely with include the American Heart Association and the Red Cross. I was also a Town of Hempstead lifeguard for the past seven years and enjoy running, swimming and playing with Lucky, my 4-year-old golden retriever.

I am eager to hear from residents in the communities and learn about their connections to Long Island, Wantagh and Seaford, and the contributions they have made. What better place to start then my own hometown? I look forward to working with for Richner Communications and furthering my career as a reporter.
