Generals’ win caps a happy Homecoming

Posted

An overtime victory by the MacArthur High School varsity football team served as the perfect ending for the annual homecoming celebration on Saturday, Levittown District officials said.

MacArthur takes in students from northern sections of Wantagh and Seaford. Residents of both communities, in addition to Levittown, celebrated the school and its students at the Homecoming festivities on Sept. 17.

The annual Homecoming parade began at Gardiners Avenue Elementary School, with crowds gathering along both sides of Old Jerusalem Road to watch the marching band, cheerleaders, student organizations, fall varsity athletes, Homecoming Court and district administrators and Levittown Board of Education trustees pass by. Jonas Salk Middle School and Levittown youth groups also participated in the event.

The General mascot himself waved to youngsters while music and cheering filled the air. The entire procession was led Dublin Brook, a MacArthur student who was named the grand marshal of the parade.

Pre-game festivities were held at the MacArthur football field, where the marching band played the national anthem. All senior football players, cheerleaders, MacEttes and members of the band and color guard were then introduced, each escorted by a parent.

Before kickoff, the Homecoming Court gathered at midfield to find out who would be named the 2016 king and queen. Bobby Lewis and Caitlin Elia were crowned to raucous applause.

The joy didn’t end there, as Generals fans celebrated a thrilling victory in about one hour’s time. Thanks to an overtime touchdown, the football team captured its first win of the season, defeating the Sewanhaka Indians. The final score was 20-14, Generals.
