The officer who saved a 16-year-old boy who threatened to jump off a Wantagh Parkway overpass on June 4 is retiring.

Angela Amato of the Nassau County Police Department’s 7th Precinct rushed to the scene as the teen was threatening to jump. She began talking to him, and when she was close enough, she took his arm and pulled him to safety. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

“Officer Amato’s quick thinking and professionalism saved the life of a 16-year-old boy,” said Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano. “Her heroic actions are a true testament to her character, and she will be greatly missed. I wish her a long, healthy and happy retirement and thank her for her stellar career in public service.”
