My final point would be to address what I feel is a slap in the face to our line officers. The Board of Fire Commissioners supports the actions of our chiefs. Chief Thomas Bettes was in command during the storm and was instrumental in coordinating all the resources available for a very safe response to Sandy. Our current chief of the department, Kevin Klein, not only worked with Chief Bettes, Chief William Madden and Chief JT Madden, but established a committee led by Chief Gil Frank and members of each company from our department in a disaster preparedness group that coordinated with all local agencies involved with emergency management planning. These sessions were attended during hundreds of hours of meetings and concluded with the best strategy available at this time. Our department, our community and our neighbors have been served with the best possible preparations for emergency response in a multitude of scenarios. Thank you for this opportunity to set the record straight.'
