Little League marks a successful season

It was better late than never for the Seaford Little League, which had to delay its Opening Day parade to the end of the season.

With opening ceremonies canceled in April because of rain, the 737 players in the Little League, along with their parents and coaches, had a warm and sunny day to march to Seaman’s Neck Park last Saturday morning. The parade began at Merrick Road and featured the high school marching band and the Seaford Fire Department.

The players — girls and boys ages 4 to 17 — were divided up among 66 teams, and led by more than 140 coaches. Games were played at Seaman’s Neck Park, Washington Avenue Park and the St. William the Abbot fields.

“The season went good, all the kids had fun,” said league President Joe Ippoliti.

Championship Saturday at the park featured the National Anthem performed by the marching band, remarks from local elected officials, and a presentation to former league president Jim Coakley. Players also got to enjoy hot dogs, and children in the younger divisions received their trophies. A few championship games followed that afternoon.
