Man arrested in Seaford crash

Two injured, no fatalities

Nassau County Police have arrested a Seaford man who was involved in a series of collisions on Monday afternoon, and they say he was either intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.

Police say that 51-year-old Sean McKenna, of Jerusalem Avenue, was traveling eastbound on the road when he was involved in five accidents with other vehicles.

The collisions began in the vicinity of Allen Drive and continued eastbound on Jerusalem Avenue until Mell Gate. After striking the five cars, McKenna continued on, police say, before he eventually left the roadway, striking a mailbox. The vehicle then destroyed about 100 feet of wooden fence and struck a utility pole, before finally coming to a stop.

Two occupants of one car were injured. A 28-year-old male, who was driving one of the vehicles, suffered a collapse lung, lacerated spleen and fractured pelvis. He as taken to an area hospital and admitted to the surgical intensive care unit. His 24-year-old female passenger sustained a contusion to her forehead. She was treated and released.

Contrary to initial reports from the scene that night, there were no fatalities.

The accidents occurred on April 20 at 5:50 p.m. McKenna was arrested at the scene and, according to police, was found to be in possession of two bags of a substance believed to be heroin.

He was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree reckless endangerment, driving while ability impaired by drugs, second-degree vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury and four counts of leaving the scene of an incident.

McKenna was admitted to an area hospital for an unrelated medical condition and will be arraigned when practical.
