Seaford Fire Department honors departed members

Posted

The Seaford Fire Department held its annual memorial services at its headquarters on Oct. 4, to honor and eulogize the members of the Seaford Hook Ladder and Engine Company No. 1 who have answered their last call since the inception of the department.

Ex-Chief Wes Weeks was the master of ceremonies for the memorial services, which he has done for several years. Department Chaplain Monsignor Steve Camp gave the invocation and benediction, and Company President Robert O’Keefe and Chief Paul Lochner thanked all those who made the services possible.

The ceremony included the reading of names of departed members followed by the striking of the department’s fire bell for each person. The service concluded by the placing of a wreath at the department’s “Old Fire Bell,” which doesn’t toll, but tells a story that harkens back to the time when there was a fire in Seaford. Pipe and Drum music during the wreath-placing ceremony was provided by Roland Davidson and John Urrutin of American Legion Post 1015.
