Seaford gets grant for lights, path

Anyone who has attended a night football game at Seaford High School knows that the walk back to the car is hardly the highlight of the evening. It is dark and, if it had rained recently, it can also be quite muddy.

That will soon change as the Seaford School District will be receiving a $50,000 grant from Nassau County for improvements. Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg has secured the funds to purchase and install lighting, and to construct a paved pathway with drainage between the football field and the parking lot.

The recently installed lighting at the turf field has increased the number of night games, causing a safety issue for those attending the game, Denenberg said. He added that the new pathway and lights will allow attendees to feel safe as they walk from the parking lot to the field, and also be less affected by the weather conditions.

“I’m proud to provide this grant to ensure that students and fans can safely enjoy Seaford athletics,” Denenberg said.

Seaford Superintendent Brian Conboy said that the grant must still get approval from the Nassau County Comptroller’s office, County Executive Ed Mangano and the Nassau Interim Finance Authority. “Once those things are done,” he said, “we will be able to bid that project.”
