Cubs become Boy Scouts at annual banquet

Posted

Seaford Cub Scout Pack 239 recently celebrated the accomplishments of six youngsters at the organization’s most anticipated night of the tear: the annual Blue and Gold Banquet.

According to the Boy Scouts of America, the Blue and Gold Banquet event is meant to celebrate a particular pack's anniversary, thank leaders and other adults who have helped the group and inspire the leaders, Scouts and parents to continue their work. This year, Pack 239 held their dinner on March 5 at Massapequa American Legion Post 1066.

Six Cub Scouts received the Webelos Arrow of Light — an award that allows youngsters to bridge into Boy Scout troops — at the banquet. Mikko Minerva, AJ Flores, Luke Donovan, Brendan Murphy, Charles Herman and James Price crossed into their new ranks.

To receive the badge — which is worn on the left pocket flap of young man’s Cub Scout uniform or below the left pocket of a Boy Scout uniform — the boys sharpened their outdoor skills and fitness, in addition to learning about citizenship and the importance of teamwork. The adult leaders of the pack commended the children for their dedication.

During the festive event, Seaford families also had the chance to win raffle prizes, including video games and toys.
