Wantagh, Seaford and Levittown residents enjoyed breakfast and bowling at Hempstead Town’s Senior Appreciation Day at Levittown Lanes.
Hempstead Town Supervisor Anthony Santino and Councilman Dennis Dunne encouraged seniors from Dunne’s district to attend the program, which was held on Aug. 30. Levittown Lanes offered attendees three free games of bowling.
Dunne hosted similar bowling events when he was a Nassau County legislator. On the town board, he serves portions of Wantagh, Seaford, Levittown, East Meadow, Bellmore and Merrick.
Dunne and Santino agreed that there are health benefits to bowling, including improved muscle tone and reduced risk of stroke, heart disease and diabetes.
The hand-eye coordination required in bowling also helps to keep participants’ minds sharp, Santino said. Additionally, Dunne noted, bowling is a good social opportunity for seniors, and can be a stress reliever. It is a great activity for grandparents to share with their grandchildren as well, Santino concluded.
