Construction will take place the week of Aug. 26 on Hendrickson Avenue alongside Memorial Junior High School, resulting in some road closings.

Drivers heading through the north end of the village near Memorial Junior High School are going to have to plan alternate travel routes next week. A very bumpy section of Hendrickson Avenue will be repaved, leaving motorists with a few days of inconvenience followed by what Valley Stream officials hope will be years of smooth driving. more

Merrick burn victim airlifted to NUMC

A resident of Henry Street in Merrick was severely burned on Thursday morning, requiring immediate treatment at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where the county’s burn center is located. Nassau County Police airlifted the victim by helicopter from Sunrise Highway to the hospital with assistance from Merrick Fire Department volunteers. At press time, officials declined to identify the victim, or to say how he or she was burned. more
