In July 2009, Temple Sinai of Long Island and Temple Emanu-El of Lynbrook merged to become Temple Am Echad, The South Shore Reform Synagogue.  To symbolize the melding of these historic congregations into a vibrant new entity, Temple Am Echad is enhancing the space familiarly known as the Biblical Garden. On Labor Day, at about 6:10 p.m., the Lynbrook Fire Department, under the command of Chief Raymond Burke, responded to the area along the Long Island Rail Road tracks on Sunrise Highway between Ocean Avenue and Rocklyn Avenue after a train conductor operating a westbound train reported that he may have possibly struck a person near the track embankment around Ocean Avenue in Lynbrook.  more

Giving, considerate, and dedicated are just three words that the children at Our Lady of Peace School in Lynbrook wrote in a letter to the Village Board to describe the former director of school maintenance, Edward Hughes, who relinquished the title on June 25 after 20 years of service. On Aug. 28 at about 7:30 p.m., the Lynbrook Fire Department was dispatched to a reported auto accident and overturn at the intersection of Merrick Road and Earle Avenue. The Lynbrook Fire Department’s Extrication Truck and ambulance 425 from the Emergency Medical Company, all under the command of Second Deputy Chief Anthony DeCarlo, responded to the scene.  more
