Members of the RVC Soccer Club 10-U teams were all smiles during Monday’s kickoff extravaganza.

It’s officially soccer season in Rockville Centre. The annual soccer kickoff took place Monday, Sept. 9, at Skelos Sports Complex. Both South Side High School varsity soccer teams opened their 2013 campaigns with victories to highlight the festivities. The boys, coached by Fred Paul, defeated Baldwin, 3-1, in the afternoon, while the defending New York State Class A champion Lady Cyclones, coached by Shannon McEntee, won 3-0 over Sacred Heart in the evening. Some of those packing the stands included young members of the Rockville Centre Soccer Club. South Side’s girls’ team was escorted onto the field by a local U-10 club squad.

What a great sport!!!...You don't have to have anywhere near the athleticism of basketball, nor the toughness of football, nor the skill required to succeed in baseball...And, soccer was the first, er, sport to institute the concept of not keeping score so as not to offend the losers and the first , er, sport to hand out participation trophies!!!...Yeah!!!
