Addressing residents in Elmont on Belmont

In a letter sent to 11,000 Elmont residents last week, Edward Blumenfeld, president of the Blumenfeld Development Group, explained his position on why his firms vision to develop the 28-acre site across from Belmont  “offers the only solid, sustainable plan.”

There are three proposals: a soccer stadium, a shopping center and what Blumenfeld called the BDG vision, which includes what is called the Costco Business Center and is planned to have an organic supermarket with affordable prices. He said that New York state will “hopefully soon” decide which company will be awarded the property.

“We envision an active community park and community center with a multi-sport fields, walking trails, playgrounds, basketball courts and tennis courts,” Blumenfeld wrote in his letter. He also noted that he is a Franklin Square native well-acquainted with the Elmont community.

“We believe that we have been sensitive to and captured the vision established in 2008 by Elmont residents by anchoring the western commercial corridor along Hempstead Turnpike and providing a shopping, dining and recreational experience for the entire family. The project will also cater to patrons of Belmont Racetrack providing a destination that will keep them and their revenue in the community,” Blumenfeld wrote.

“BDG has repeatedly introduced ground-breaking concepts and tenants to the region. Since our meeting in May, we have listened to additional feedback regarding our plan and we welcome future dialogue to further refine it. We are proud of our accomplishments and excited to work with your community to realize our collective goals. We encourage you to visit our project website at www.bdg.nt/belmont to learn more about our proposal, our company and our other BDG projects,” the letter reads.
