Port Washington Play Troupe’s Children Show Presents “Alice in Wonderland”

Port Washington Play Troupe’s Children Show will present their multi-generational production of “Alice in Wonderland” in the Parish Hall at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church (9 Carlton Ave., Port Washington, NY 11050) on Thursday, March 21 at 7pm; Saturday, March 23 at 3pm and 8pm, and Sunday, March 24 at 3pm. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children, and tickets can be reserved by calling Port Washington Play Troupe at (516) 473-6243.

The production's robust cast of 50 includes seven adults and 43 children ranging from fourth grade to 10th. Director Diana vonRoeschlaub, who grew up performing in the Children’s Show and Port Summer Show, directs “Alice in Wonderland,” a stage adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass” by Play Troupe President Pamela Meadows, with Executive Producer Sandra Ehrlich leading the production team. Meadows specifically adapted the story in 1973 to accommodate greater numbers of young performers, but various incarnations of "Alice in Wonderland" have made regular appearances throughout the Children's Show's history.

“Play Troupe's multi-generational approach to community theater for children provides an atmosphere of admiration, respect and encouragement among the cast, while presenting an exciting dynamic for the audience,” vonRoeschlaub notes. “When presenting classic fairy and folk tales, it just adds such a wonderful sense of ‘the way it’s meant to be’ when actors of the appropriate age portray characters in the story. And to see so many generations having fun together will just warm your heart.”
