A storm system off the East Coast provided wintry weather for Nassau County early Friday, just in time for the rush hour commute.
All four public school districts closed operations for the day, giving Valley Streamers their first snow day of the season.
"We were prepared for the snow," Mayor Ed Fare said, adding that the Department of Public Works began pre-treating the roads with magnesium chloride salt at 4 a.m.
Residents are encouraged to keep cars off the roads and to refrain from shoveling or blowing snow back into the street.
