Armed Lynbrook man arrested by police in East Rockaway

Lynbrook cops chase suspect through residential backyards, make arrest

The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of a Lynbrook man for criminal possession of a weapon on Sept. 16 at 10:46 p.m. in East Rockaway.

According to detectives, Fourth Precinct patrol officers responded to Dairy Barn, located at 560 Atlantic Ave. for a suspicious male who was in the parking lot. 

Upon arrival at the scene, a male, who matched the description given to police, took off on foot going north through backyards on Denton Avenue. 

Officers chased the suspect and alerted Lynbrook Police for assistance. 

A short time later, the Lynbrook officers located the suspect, identified as Andrew Ardison Gardner, 27, of Prospect Avenue in Lynbrook, near the corner of Phipps Avenue and Davison Plaza.  The officers were able to place him under arrest in a rear yard of Phipps Avenue. 

An investigation revealed that Gardner was in possession of a loaded Sig Sauer .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun that had been reported as stolen from Pennsylvania.

Gardner is charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree.  He was scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 17 at First District Court in Hempstead.
