Big inning lifts Lynbrook over VSS

South pushed across two runs in the top of the fourth to take a 5-3 lead. Sophomore Melanie Morales doubled with one out and weaseled out of a rundown to score the first run, and junior Jen Schoch scored on a Shields sacrifice fly.

Lynbrook responded by batting around and scored four of its five runs in the bottom of the frame with two outs. The Lady Owls took the lead for good when Curran (2-for-3) scored on a wild pitch. “Everything seemed to snowball that inning,” Adrahtas said.

South, which got a two-run single from Schippell in the sixth for the final margin, threatened in the fifth with runners on first and second with one out. Martuciello lined a single to center, Montine charged it, came up throwing and fired a strike that barely beat a sliding Kilcoin at the plate. DiCarmine made a perfect play on the receiving end. “If that play doesn’t happen, I’m not sure we win,” Toscano said.
