The Bowling Green K-Kids recently received exciting news from the New York District of Kiwanis naming it as this year’s distinguished club. Bowling Green was one of only five clubs in New York to receive this honor.

The K-Kids’ book featuring 41 service projects and fundraisers, depicted on 109 pages, was selected as the winner of the K-Kids Scrapbook contest at the state level. The club also won the New York state Single Service award designated to the best community service project completed by K-Kids during the 2011-12 school year.

Despite stiff competition and the largest number of entries to date, the good news and accolades for the Bowling Green K-Kids did not stop there. The officers and members continued to win every individual K-Kids contest for the fourth consecutive year.

The Bowling Green K-Kids’ Coloring Book Page Art contest entries were drawn and K-Kids Secretary Kira Gruber and member Mackenzie Bauman were both selected as the New York District winners. Bowling Green K-Kids President Devon Rafanelli won second place in the ELIMINATE Project Art contest while Kira’s and Mackenzie’s entries will move on to compete against the winners of other states, regions and countries at the International level.

Devon also won the New York District Speech contest, Essay contest and the Letter contest and her entries will also be moving on to the International competition.

President Devon was also named the New York District winner of the prestigious Kiwanis International Foundation’s K-Kids Leadership Award.

K-Kids Faculty Advisor Rich Santer was thrilled as the results were announced. “This has been an amazing year for our club. I could not ask for more dedicated members. These kids have taken our club’s community service to new heights. We have completed service projects in our local community, throughout New York State, across the country and around the world including the Kingdom of Jordan and the island of Jamaica.”
