Coming together for Veterans Day

Posted

East Meadowites who served the American armed forces gathered for a special Veterans Day breakfast last week.

Leaders of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2736 organize the program annually. Members came together at Veterans Memorial Park at 10 a.m. on Nov. 11 to commemorate the holiday.

The program began with a breakfast, at which the veterans chatted and enjoyed each other’s company. After their meal, they visited the post’s monument, which is west of the intersection of East Meadow and Prospect avenues. They snapped photos in front of the structure with family members and one another.

Nassau County also hosted Veterans Day celebrations in and around East Meadow recently. The Veterans Day Parade, which kicked off in Westbury, took place on Sat., Nov. 7. The county’s annual Veterans Day ceremony was held the following day at the Veteran Plaza in Eisenhower Park.
