“They are working with us and they want to be good neighbors,” Flanagan said of the Love Jones ownership.

Some residents who attended the meeting called for increased police patrols in Baldwin. Flanagan explained that there are five police cars assigned to the hamlet, along with some plainclothes officers. He added that patrols in the 1st Precinct, which includes 22 police cars, can be increased at any time based on need.

Flanagan also said that while he could not provide specifics about the investigation into the Grand Avenue shooting, the incident resulted from a dispute and was “not a random act of violence.” He added that crime is down overall this year in the 1st Precinct, which, in addition to Baldwin, includes Roosevelt and Uniondale as well as parts of Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh and East Meadow.

Curran, who was elected last November, said she is hoping to hold additional meetings to focus on ways to address minimizing crime in Baldwin. “Improved communication is key,” she said. “Let’s have this be the beginning.”
