The hikes that Mangano and Republican legislators authorized last week allow fee increases of 8 to 10 percent for county residents, Sullivan estimated. They range from a $1 increase at batting cages to a $400 increase for a season’s tee time reservation for four people on the Red Course at Eisenhower Park, according to figures Abrahams’ office provided.

“It seems like a fairly marginal increase, but I feel bad for the kids under 18, who don’t have that much spare cash to go around, who rely on these pools and these parks to go out and enjoy themselves,” said Michael Serbin, of Wantagh. “… For someone who’s low income, it’s going to hurt them disproportionately.”

The Legislature separately voted 13-6 to raise fines for traffic ticket scofflaws. Abrahams, Legislator Ellen Birnbaum (D-Great Neck) and Legislator Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) voted with the Republican majority in favor of the fines.
