“Change is never easy,” Gallagher said. “Change for the sake of change is never a correct option. But change with an eye for the future, change with specific goals in mind … is a change that can make a long-term impact on our children and their success in school.”

Parents in the audience at the Feb. 5 work session cheered the decision to keep the East School open, and approached board trustees to thank them for listening to public input. Many also said they would be open to learning more about the implementation of an early-childhood learning center, adding that it was the only other viable option besides keeping the schools as they are.
