Eateries offer ‘Taste of Merrick’

Dinner supports charity, nonprofit

Attendees of the Merrick Lions Club’s April 17 fundraiser were met with a smorgasbord of delicacies, ranging from seafood to Spanish tapas, fine chocolates and more — all of it from Merrick.

The occasion was the Lions Club’s third annual “Taste of Merrick.” About a dozen Merrick restaurants and stores offered samples of their menus to roughly 200 guests at Curé of Ars Roman Catholic Church, according to event organizer Mitchell Barber. Proceeds from the dinner supported Curé of Ars’s food pantry and the Long Island Crisis Center, a Bellmore-based nonprofit agency that maintains a 24/7 crisis intervention hotline and offers other help and programs for underserved populations on Long Island.

The evening also honored Linda Leonard, longtime executive director of the LICC, for her years of service to at-risk and disenfranchised people on Long Island.
