An Elmont resident was arrested and charged with a number of burglaries on March 1 at 3:12 a.m. in Baldwin. According to detectives from the First Squad, First Precinct police officers responded to a home on Central Avenue where a burglary was reported in progress. When the officers arrived they determined that the suspect, Troy Deans, 23, of Elmont, had run away on foot before gaining access to the residence. However, a second burglary was reported a short time later on Clinton Avenue and a Nassau County canine officer responded to the vicinity with his service dog, Gehrig. While searching the area, detectives said, Gehrig drew the human officer’s attention to the rear of a home on Clinton Place. Deans was discovered in the yard, attempted to flee, but was apprehended by the dog. Further investigation determined that Deans may have been responsible for several burglaries in the area. Police said Deans may have entered a business on Grand Avenue in Baldwin on Sept. 21, a home in Freeport on Nov. 5 and a Kings Parkway home in Baldwin on Nov. 9. They also suspect Deans of stealing a 2011 Toyota Rav 4 from the last location.

Deans is charged with one count of burglary in the third degree, three counts of burglary in the second degree, two counts of attempted burglary in the second degree and one count of grand larceny, third degree. He is also charged with criminal trespass. He was arraigned on Saturday, March 2 at First District Court in Hempstead.
