Faculty dodgeball tournament at Carey

Posted

Eight teams made up of teachers, administrators, custodians and aides participated in H. Frank Carey’s Faculty Dodge Ball Tournament, which raised funds for next year’s Challenge Day.

The crowd in the gymnasium was loud and enthusiastic, as Deejay club members Michael Langis and CJ Buchanan had the music blaring. Award-winning freshman photographer Thomas J. Raggio was also present with his camera in tow, when participating teams arrived with T-shirts, creative team names, entrance songs and, in some cases, face paint.

There were many highlights of the tournament, which concluded in the championship round, with the Dodgers, led by tournament MVP, physical education teacher Tom Aiello defeating Finkelstein’s Finest. The Dodgers “dream team” was comprised of a potpourri of members that included assistant principals, a department chairperson, math and physical education teachers and a security aide.

Congratulations to the custodial team Los Gorditos Revenge for being crowned Most Spirited at the event. A special thank you to students Michael Catanese, Michael DeLeo, Paul Koprowski and Luke Spano for officiating the game and to Math Chairperson Robert Pontecorvo, who donned a tuxedo as he served as Masters of Ceremonies for the event.

The anticipation for next year is already building. Teams like Bronies and Ponies from the PPS Department, and the first team to face elimination, Historically Accurate from the Social Studies Department, are already discussing practicing over the summer and watching YouTube Dodgeball videos to improve their games!
