West Hempstead Firefighters battled a late-night fire at a home on Spruce Street and Woodfield Road on June 21. According to fire department officials, roughly 40 firefighters from West Hempstead, Lakeview and Hempstead raced to the scene around 9:00 p.m. Both Franklin Square and Uniondale Fire Departments were on standby.
