A 57-year-old man was rescued from the chilly waters at East Marina in Lido Beach early Wednesday morning by a Nassau County police officer, after he slipped while trying to board his boat, according to police.

Officer Kerwin Bradley, of the Fourth Precinct, was on routine patrol at the East Marina in Lido Beach around 2:40 a.m. when he heard an unusual sound coming from the dock.

He discovered the fisherman, who said he had been in the water holding onto the edge of the dock for about 30 minutes, according to police. The officer called for help, as responders from the Point Lookout Lido Fire Department used a ladder to assist him in pulling the man from the water.

"He was in the right place at the right time," Brian Guerin, assistant chief at the PLLFD, said of the Nassau police officer. "That's really what it boils down to."

An ambulance responded to the scene, Guerin added, as Ex-captain James Guerin, Emergency Medical Technician Janine Matheis, as well as lieutenants Harrison Weitz and Josh Riskin then removed the gentleman and evaluated him.

The man appeared uninjured, police said, and refused medical treatment at the scene.
