The Stinky Cheese Man…
Your family will never look at fairy tales the same way again after seeing Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith’s irreverent children’s book, “The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales,” on stage in this witty and wacky interactive production. The delightfully silly story revolves around Jack, who has scaled to the top of that enormous beanstalk and stolen the golden harp and gold-laying goose from the sleeping giant. To avoid being eaten after the giant awakes, Jack distracts his attention by telling his own versions of some well-known tales. The giant — and the audience — are treated to new spins on those old favorites, such as a tortoise racing a hair-growing hare, Cinderumplestiltskin, Little Red Running Shorts and a couple of princesses kissing frogs and sleeping on peas. Jack must also overcome disturbances caused by a pesky, bread-obsessed Red Hen and a smelly hero made of cheese.
Sunday, Feb. 9, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. $25, $15 children. Madison Theatre, Molloy College, 1000 Hempstead Ave., Rockville Centre. (516) 323-4444 or www.madisontheatreny.org.

Seasonal Delights

Winter Trek
Those die-hard outdoorsy folks among us can explore the always-fascinating Muttontown Preserve during a guided winter trek of some of its 550 acres. The hike takes visitors along a variety of environments located on the preserve — including visits to the wetlands, wooded trails, upland woods and kettle ponds. It’s a tranquil look at the serene beauty of nature in winter. Look for cold weather birds and other creatures that reside in Nassau County’s largest nature preserve.
Sunday, Feb. 9, 10 a.m.-noon. Enrollment is limited and registration is required. Bill Paterson Nature Center, Muttontown Preserve, Muttontown La. (south of 25A), East Norwich. (516) 571-8500.
