Endorsement comes a week after arrest of Dave Mejias

Francesca Carlow announced on Wednesday morning that she has been endorsed by the New York State Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, as she continues her bid to challenge longtime Republican Sen. Kemp Hannon in the general elections.

The endorsement was made a week after Carlow's primary opponent, Dave Mejias, was arrested and charged with stalking and menancing his ex-girlfriend. Though Mejias denied the charges in a statement, he has not confirmed whether or not he will remain in the race. Mejias had been backed by the Nassau County Democratic Party.

According to a media advisory sent by press secretary Akeem Henry on Wednesday afternoon, Mejias will address reporters during a press conference on Thursday morning in Bethpage.

Carlow is the immediate past president of the Plainview Chamber of Commerce, a position she served for seven years.
