Tried to use counterfeit money in Rockaway Turnpike store
JEFF BESSEN
Nassau County Police
Samuel Robinson of Freeport was arrested for allegedly using counterfeit money in a Lawrence store on Dec. 7.

Police arrested a Freeport man on Jan. 19 for allegedly using $10,000 worth of counterfeit money in a money gram scam in Lawrence on Dec. 7.

Police said that Samuel Robinson, 61, of Guy Lombardo Ave. in Freeport entered Tobacco Road, a smoke shop on Rockaway Turnpike in Lawrence, and asked the cashier for a money gram form, which Robinson filled out and returned to the woman clerk.

When she asked him for identification, he produced a valid New York State identification card. Robinson then gave the cashier 10, $100 bills to process the money gram, according to police. The women felt the bills and realized that they were counterfeit. She went to another area of the store and called 911. Robinson overheard the woman and fled the store.

Robinson charged with 10 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument and was arraigned on Jan. 20 at First District Court in Hempstead.
