HAFTR helps ailing graduate

More than $3,000 was raised as the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway (HAFTR) Middle School Players performed Disney’s “Aladdin” in front of a sold out audience on May 19.
Proceeds from the show will benefit HAFTR High School class of 1995 graduate Meredith Farrell, who is currently waiting to undergo a double lung transplant, likely be followed by a bone marrow transplant.
Donating the money was the idea of students and performers Makayla Schein and Susana Horowitz as part of their chesed (kindness) projects for their bat mitzvahs. Schein’s mother, Shanna Lebowitz Schein, also a HAFTR alum, has maintained a close friendship with Farrell.
Jennifer Winkler and Leslie Gang directed the play with help from student director Hannah Chaikin.
