Hempstead looking for lifeguards

Posted

“I Wanna Be A Lifeguard,” sang the group Blotto in 2009. Well now is your chance. The Aquatics Division of Hempstead Town is offering a unique screening program for certified and non-certified lifeguard candidates at least 16 years of age for summer jobs. Interviews for candidates will be held at the Echo Park Pool on Nassau Boulevard in West Hempstead, every Saturday from May 16 to May 30 from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Participants are asked to bring all of their certification cards to the interview as well as a bathing suit, goggles and towel. Each lifeguard must swim 200 yards under three minutes and 45 seconds to qualify for the interview.

Applicants who wish to apply, but are not certified, can enroll in lifeguard training courses offered by the American Red Cross. For more information on training courses conducted in the area please visit www.redcross.org/ux/take-a-class.

“Lifeguarding is a fantastic summer job,” stated Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray. “Not only is it a great, outdoor, well-paying job, but it offers an opportunity to keep all of our residents safe while enjoying the water. I encourage everyone interested to apply.”

The Town of Hempstead currently operates 22 outdoor pools and 1 indoor pool. Four ocean beachfronts at Point Lookout, Lido, Lido West and Sands are also available to Town of Hempstead residents. Hewlett Point Park is the only Hempstead Town operated bay beach. They also post a lifeguard at the Oceanside Pool.
