Now that we’ve feasted on that turkey, it’s tine to greet the holiday season head on. One place that’s filled with holiday warmth this weekend is Museum Row in Garden City, where the Festival of Trees welcomes families to a three-day extravaganza. This unique event, once again held at the Cradle of Aviation Museum, brings together artisans, entertainers, volunteers and the community to celebrate the holiday season.
The centerpiece of the weekend’s festivities, Friday through Sunday, Nov. 25-27, is the display of 32 6 1/2 foot trees and 350 mini-trees. Each is adorned with a unique theme, creatively decorated by designers and community groups. Check out “Au Pair Care Tree of Nations,” “Peppermint Twist,” Santa’s Silhouette,” “Park Avenue Splendor,” “Precious Moments, Precious Memories,” A Comic Christmas,” “Home for the Holidays,” “Let’s Have a Ball,” “Dragons & Fairies,” “A Firefighter’s World,” The Mardi Gras Tree,” Baskets of Beanies,” “NY Cheer,” and the “Tree of Angels,” among the many inspired themes.
The Baldwin Homemakers, Nassau County Firefighters Museum, Flowers by Voegler of Merrick, Garden World of Franklin Square, Chief Equipment of Freeport (with a John Deere- themed tree that includes a snow blower), the L.I. Knitting and Crochet Guild; Old Westbury Gardens, Au Pair Care, The Homemakers of Nassau County, KJOY Radio, Basket of Beanie Babies by Karen Kiefel of Valley Stream along with her daughter Tiffany Claeson, are just some of the many local businesses and organizations that contribute trees.
Other impressive trees include those by East Meadow’s Peggy Bridgewater. She has been designing trees for the festival for many years and her trees often are awarded honors.  This year Bridgewater is contributing two versions, one is called “Peppermint Twist” and the other is titled, “Christmas Silver and Gold.”
