IRS cover-up is worse than the misdeed

I recently appeared on Fox News, where the topic was supposed to be the decision by drugstore superpower CVS to no longer sell cigarettes or tobacco products to customers. However, a House Ways and Means Committee hearing quickly diverted our attention.

The topic of debate? The Internal Revenue Service and Lois Lerner, the official at the center of last year’s scandal involving the Obama administration and its admitted targeting of political groups applying for tax-exempt status.

You’ll recall that, last May, several lawmakers accused the IRS of targeting and scrutinizing conservative groups, such as the Tea Party, when these groups applied for tax-exempt status. After a brief investigation, including a trail of emails proving the coordinated attempt by IRS officials to target approximately 41 conservative groups, it became obvious that the Obama administration used its power to single out its political enemies, making it harder for them to gain tax-exempt status, which in turn made it harder for them to participate in elections.

Over the past six months, the administration and the Justice Department have done everything in their power to ensure that this investigation is killed by delay. There’s just one problem: Lawmakers won’t let that happen. Now the Ways and Means Committee has uncovered emails showing that Lerner worked on new rules with the Treasury Department during the investigation.

Some House Republicans are making sure that this issue continues to get media exposure, and that those who are responsible for this offense are held accountable. The heat is on President Obama. On Super Bowl Sunday, in an interview with Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly, the president claimed there was “not a smidgen of corruption” at the IRS regarding this targeting.

Al, first off calling Fox News a news organization is like saying the sky is purple and the sun is blue.

All of these political action groups should be investigated and non of them should have tax free status.

We need to get government funded elections and not have our government for sale and owned by the rich and corporations since both only act in their own interests. It would also make the election season shorter, since what people say when running for office has nothing to do with what they do when they get there. We all know 99% of all policitcans lie to get elected then do everything to get reelected.
