At Bowling Green Elementary School’s recent Moving Up ceremony, K-Kids member Isabella Di Costanzo received the third annual Harlie Treanor Memorial Award.

This award honors the memory of K-Kids member Harlie Treanor, who was killed in a boating accident on July 4, 2012.  It is given to a graduating fifth grader who best exemplifies Harlie’s compassion for helping others, love for animals (especially elephants) and her commitment to making the world a better place.

Harlie, who was 11, had moved with her family from East Meadow to Huntington Station just weeks before the accident. In April 2013, the Salisbury-based Central Nassau Little League, of which Harlie played in, dedicated their annual parade in her honor.

In making the presentation, Kiwanis Lt. Governor Rich Santer was assisted by K-Kids Faculty Advisor Frances Bilianis and Harlie’s Younger Sister, Madyson Treanor, who is a K-Kids member and a graduating fifth grader.

The award is often seen as Bowling Green K-Kids’ Member of the Year Award, said Santer, who added that Isabella’s commitment towards helping others made her an ideal candidate. Along with club president Sofia Passariello, Isabella attended more K-Kids service projects than any member.
