Nassau County police arrested a Long Beach man last Sunday night after he allegedly tried to rob an Island Park gas station.

According to police, 27-year-old Kyle Mclaughlin appeared intoxicated when he entered the Petro gas station and convenience store at 4305 Austin Blvd. Police said Mclaughlin pulled up his shirt as if he had a weapon, and demanded cash and beer from the 33-year-old sales clerk.

But the clerk instead pushed Mclaughlin to the ground, at which point he got up and left the store on foot, police said. Responding officers from the 4th Precinct observed Mclaughlin walking on Austin Boulevard shortly after the incident, and arrested him at 9:38 p.m. Police said that no proceeds from the store were recovered, and no injuries were reported.

Mclaughlin was charged with third-degree attempted robbery, and was arraigned on Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
