Thousands of residents who live in East Meadow, Westbury, Uniondale and Garden City were without power on Tuesday night.

Power outages began at about 7:15 p.m., and continued throughout the night. The Herald’s office in Garden City had no power for three hours.

According to the Long Island Power Authority, about 2,300 people in East Meadow, Westbury, Uniondale and Garden City were without power throughout the evening. At 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, LIPA reported that power was restored to most of those customers.

Some East Meadow residents reported outages, while others said they had full power in their homes. At press time, it was unclear which specific areas in East Meadow and Salisbury were affected by the outages.

LIPA technicians, with the help of volunteer firefighters, were set up at utility poles in the outage area, including Merchants Concourse and Stewart Avenue in Garden City.

LIPA officials could not immediately be reached for comment, and a cause of the outage had not been released.
