The Levittown School District is mourning Board of Education member Kevin J. Regan, who died on Tuesday, Oct. 20 after a battle with cancer. He was 72.

The retired New York City police detective was elected to a third term on the Levittown Board of Education in May. He was serving as vice president.

“He was a good cop and proud of it,” Trustee Michael Pappas said. “He always did the right thing and took pride in his work, school district and community.”

Regan worked with various organizations including the Levittown Kiwanis Club, Levittown Chamber of Commerce and Island Trees Youth Council to give back to the community.

“He gave children and young kids the opportunity to play all sports, whatever it may be,” said Pappas. “He really did everything for the good of others."

Services will be held on Oct. 22 and 23 at Dalton Funeral Home on Hempstead Turnpike from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The school board meeting scheduled for Oct. 21 has been canceled due to the sudden death and all flags at Levittown schools will be at half-staff to honor Regan until Oct. 25.

“You can’t replace a guy like this,” Pappas said. “It would take a bunch of people to fill his place.”
