Levittown teen killed by hit-and-run driver

A 13-year-old girl from Levittown was struck by a car and killed Sunday while she was crossing Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown.

According to police, at 12:02 a.m., Brianna Soplin was crossing Hempstead Turnpike from the south to north side at the Gardiners Avenue intersection when a vehicle heading eastbound hit her. She was transported to the Nassau University Medical Center with head and body trauma and was pronounced dead by doctors at 4:30 a.m.

The driver of the vehicle failed to stop, cops said, and was last seen traveling eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike before heading north on the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway. The automobile is described as a 2011 to 2013 blue Town and Country minivan.
