"This policy will guarantee that these roadways remain open by establishing a concise and orderly procedure that will be followed in the event of a severe snowstorm," the city said on its website. "In coordination with the Department of Public Works, the Police Department will operate in such a manner as to remove the vehicles with the assistance of the owners/operators, and as a last resort, [will issue] summons and tow vehicles to another location that will permit the successful removal of snow from all snow emergency routes.”

The city said that its entire fleet of snow vehicles is out on the roads, and urged residents to stay off them if possible. Those who lose power should contact the PSE&G emergency line at (800) 490-0075. As always, city officials said that in the event of an emergency, residents should call 911.
