Long Beach residents and siblings Tia and Taijh Guerrier have launched a collaborative art collective called Crown Designs, which combines their individual artistic pursuits across multiple mediums including fashion, painting, photography and music.

The duo shared their new websites and displayed artwork and clothing of their own design at a launch party at the Long Beach Hotel on Monday. Taijh, 23, promoted his website, JMonet.black — a portfolio of his art and music -— while Tia, 16, unveiled items from her new online “pop-up” boutique, Tijhani Clothing, which can be found at TIJHANI.com.

“The goal is not only to unify young people and get them to do things for themselves, but globally to unify everyone and stop looking at what separates us,” Taijh explained. “We want everyone to come together as a society.”

Crown Designs officially launched in May, and though the duo are focusing primarily on fashion for now, they said they have plans to expand into other areas, including video game design, dance studios, publishing and music.

“For now, it’s vague on purpose because we want to add more businesses later,” Taijh said. The siblings said they hope the collaboration will inspire others to pursue their passions.

“If they want to do fashion, that’s great,” Tia said. “But if they want to do music or producing, do that, too. You only have one life, so you might as well enjoy it.”

Tia said that the name Crown Designs is meant to convey the idea that anyone has the capability to be his or her own king or queen and establish an empire. “It’s a regal movement of good self-esteem and to extend the societal standards of beauty for women, especially teenagers,” she said.

Monday’s launch party not only offered the pair great exposure, Taijh said, but helped him envision where the project might go in the future and gave them practical information, like what sizes and designs are most popular.
