He added, “Something I’ve known my whole life, or learned early on, is you have to look out for the quiet ones. She’s definitely a quiet one, but she’s very tough, and she’s an inspiration.”

‘Just keep moving forward’

Brociner teaches at a preschool child-care center for toddlers aged 6 weeks to 18 months in Woodside, but right now she is on medical leave. She coached gymnastics for 30 years, earned a master’s degree in exercise physiology at Adelphi University, and met her husband while teaching an exercise class at Hofstra.

At this point, she said, she is looking forward to her next half-marathon and returning to a normal life. And even though Team Challenge doesn’t endorse it, she said it’s her goal to one day run a full marathon.

For Brociner, that’s just another challenge. “I just keep pushing,” she said. “Keep going forward, is my philosophy. Just keep moving forward.”
