In addition to youth and road bikes, Merrick Bicycles offers adult cruisers, hybrid comfort, hybrid fitness and mountain bicycles. “There’s nothing we can’t cover as far as bicycles,” Hammer said. “We’re offering the customer more bicycle for their money.”
Beside bicycles, the shop carries a full line of accessories, including lights, pumps, locks, clothes and shoes. And it offers repair services by Armando Gutierrez, who has 20 years of experience as a bike mechanic. The shop is now offering a spring tune-up special of $49.99. The normal price is $59.99. Pro tune-ups for high-end bicycles run $160 to $200, Hammer said. Merrick Bicycles offers a pro tune-up for $149.99, but it’s currently running a $99 special.

“We offer what the factory stores offer on a smaller scale, with more personalized service,” Hammer said.

Hammer, who races bicycles on the amateur circuit, is offering free Saturday cycling tours to Jones Beach for serious enthusiasts and Sunday cycling tours through local streets for families. The first Saturday ride will take off at 8 a.m. on April 12 and the first Sunday ride on April 13 at 9 a.m. Merrick Bicycles will raffle off a road bike at the first Saturday ride, and giveaways will be offered at the first Sunday ride, along with bagels, juice and coffee. A cyclist must complete the inaugural 30-mile Saturday ride to be eligible for the raffle.

The rides, Yuricic said, are “a way to spend quality time with your families and the community.”

Merrick Bicycles is now open. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 11. The shop will also have a booth at the Merrick Chamber of Commerce’s Kids Fest on April 26 and 27, at which Hammer and Yuricic will have a prize wheel and offer free helmet and bike inspections.
