Motorcyclist killed in Meadowmere

A 35-year-old man riding a motorcycle died after he hit the rear of a minivan on Rockaway Turnpike in Meadowmere at 8 p.m. on Sept. 21, police said.

The 72-year-old man driving the 2003 Chrysler Town & Country minivan was traveling north on Rockaway Turnpike. He made a left turn, cut across the roadway and blocked the motorcyclist’s path, according to police.

After the younger man struck the minivan he was thrown off the motorcycle and suffered severe heads trauma. Taken to an area hospital he died at 8:35 p.m., doctors said.

Police conducted a brake check at the scene of the Chrysler and released it to the owner. The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check.

The name of the victim is being withheld until his family is notified.
