Nassau Bar sponsors Long Beach legal consultation clinic

Attorneys' association to assist Sandy’s Victims Tuesday, November 20 at Long Beach City Hall

To help residents in the hard hit Long Beach area deal with the many legal issues involved in the aftermath of the devastating effects of Superstorm Sandy, Marian Rice, president of the Nassau County Bar Association, today announced that BA volunteer attorneys are offering free legal consultation, advice and referral information at a free Superstorm Sandy legal clinic at Long Beach City Hall on Tuesday, November 20, 3-5 p.m. The legal clinic is co-sponsored by the Long Beach Lawyers Association.

Residents will be able to meet one-on-one with attorneys to answer questions, detail processes and provide help in these areas:

· Homeowner, flood, property damage and automobile insurance claims

· FEMA assistance and grants

· Debt deferral

· Bankruptcy

· Consumer Protection issues (contractors, etc.)

· Landlord-Tenant issues

· Assistance in dealing with lenders to avoid foreclosure

· Legal assistance for health/disability/personal injury/post-traumatic stress issues

· Pro bono Alternative Dispute Resolution (mediation and arbitration) for neighbor disputes arising from the storm.

Residents who have phone service are asked to please register for a convenient meeting time by calling 516-747-4070. Attorneys fluent in Spanish, Korean, Russian, Haitian Creole or other languages will be made available upon request when registering. Walk-ins are welcome. Please bring any significant documents, paperwork, leases, etc.

NCBA is also hosting 2 additional clinics for Nassau residents at its headquarters on 15th Street at the corner of West Street in Mineola:

· Monday, November 19, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 3 - 7 p.m.

· Monday, November 26, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 3 -7 p.m.
