Another winter storm advances on Nassau County

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for much of Thursday in Nassau County.

The service warned residents to expect snow to transition to sleet and rain Thursday morning. A complete changeover to rain is possible during the day on Thursday, before changing back to snow Thursday night. An accumulation of four to eight inches anticipated.

Temperatures are predicted to be in the lower 30s on Thursday. Visibility will be less than a quarter mile at times, and snow and ice could make travel treacherous.

Additionally, a coastal flood statement has been issued for the county, from 1 p.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday morning. Tides are expected to rise throughout the region during the storm, and minor coastal flooding is expected during high tides last Thursday and early Friday. Hide tide for the Jones Inlet during the warning period will be at 6:46 p.m. on Thursday, and 6:56 a.m. on Friday. The barrier islands are among the most susceptible areas, and minor beach erosion is expected.
