New Curriculum specialist at Lynbrook

As many children scrambled to enjoy the last lazy days of summer, Allison Curran was teeming with anticipation for a new school year. After leaving Oceanside school district earlier this year, Curran is ready for a new challenge. As the newest member of Lynbrook Public School District’s administrative team, she brings a wealth of educational experience that she will put to the test as the new grades K-5 Curriculum Specialist.

“I was anxious to get going after I was found out I got the position,” Curran said. “I was very excited about it. And I am enjoying it.”

Since her first day on Aug. 25, Curran has been expressing that enthusiasm for her new position in Lynbrook. She described an intense interview process that consisted of several rounds meeting with Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Gerard Beleckas, Board of Education, and even teachers and principals of West End, Waverly Park, and Marion Street Schools. And after the board appointed her to the position on Aug. 11, Curran has received a warm welcome from the district. But she takes some time in her busy schedule to walk down memory lane.

After growing up in Manhasset, the now Rockville Centre resident went to Fairview University as an English Literature major. Upon graduating in 1996, she took some time to work in publicity at Electra Entertainment, a record label owned by Atlantic Records Group. But little did she know that there was another career calling her name: education.

“I did not fall into education right away,” Curran said. “But I love it.” Instead of setting her sights on musical horizons, Curran invested her interest in education. After earning a masters in Education from Fordham University in 2000, she went on to earn another reading degree there and obtain an administrative degree from Stony Brook University. And her education career took off like a rocket.
